Labour Standards Board

The Labour Standards Board is an administrative tribunal, established on April 1, 2000 under the Labour Standards Act. The Labour Standards Act is the basic legal authority for employment standards in Nunavut. The purpose of the Labour Standards Act is to describe the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees who fall under its authority.
The Board hears appeals by either the employer or employee from decisions or orders of the Labour Standards Officer.

The Board was established to provide citizens with a quicker and less cumbersome alternative to the civil court system. Its function is to review each Certificate from the Labour Services Branch before making a decision regardless if that case is appealed. The Board may hold hearings and consider representation by the persons involved.
